You want to start a childcare business! Yay! I’m so happy for you!
When starting a home daycare there are a few obstacles many people face:
- How do I start a home daycare?
- What should I name my home daycare?
For me, I knew I wanted to open a licensed family child care. So, I did a bit of research and looked into licensing requirements and regulations in my area.
I completed all the necessary steps. And within a few months, I was licensed and ready to start my home-based business!
But, coming up with a perfect business name seems to be a big challenge for many new child care providers! You want your daycare name to reflect who you are and what your child care program is about, but there are so many words you can use!
Here are 5 name ideas for a daycare to get your business in child care started!
But first….
2 Tips to Consider Before You Decide on a Daycare Name:
1. Alternative Meaning
When choosing a daycare name, double-check that none of the words you use have a double meaning when read by the customer. For instance, a business name like Grandma’s Attic Childcare or Wild Things Daycare can create an unwanted image about your daycare in the mind of a potential client.
I don’t know what kind of emotions my sample daycare names gave you, but when I tested them on a few friends, most of them made a face.
2. How Your Daycare Name is Spelled
Sometimes the “perfect” daycare name looks different when you type it out. For instance, a business name with the words kids and excellent looks different when it’s part of your website name or social media handles:
Kids Excellent Care – kidsexcellentcare.com or @kidsexcellentcare
Do you see the undesirable word?
I gave you just one example. But many words can create “new” inappropriate words when combined. So, when coming up with a name for your daycare, make sure that there are no hidden words.

5 Ways to Choose a Daycare Name for Your Child Care Business.
1. Use Your Town, Village or City Name
You’re not limited to this option but if possible, name your daycare with the name of the city, town, or village where your childcare business location is.
It might not seem like the cutest or most fun option, but it might be one of the best.
The reason I would encourage you to use this option is that for marketing purposes, its the one that makes the most sense.
The majority of people go online to search for local daycare businesses. And they will usually search for something like daycares in Dublin or childcare in Apple Valley, and so on.
Some name ideas for a daycare might be:
- Dublin Home Child Care
- Apple Valley Childcare
- King City Daycare
You get the idea!
If your daycare name is similar to what your customers are searching for, then your business has a greater chance of ranking higher in the search results. There’s a bit more that goes into this, but the possibility of your business showing up above all other local daycare’s is higher.
2. Use Your Name
Use your name and brand yourself as the expert of your area.
Here are some examples:
- Ms. Amber’s Daycare
- Mrs. Linda’s Home Childcare
- Maria’s Playschool
- Jones Childcare
- Williams Childcare & Preschool
3. Use the Name of Your Street
If you feel comfortable disclosing your overall business location, and if it’s an appropriate name, consider using your street name as your daycare name.
4. Use Unrelated Words
You can combine words to create a fun daycare name. Don’t worry if the name doesn’t make sense. It’s up to you, as a business owner to brand your name and make it make sense.
Some name ideas for a daycare might be:
- Cribs & Crayons
- Lullaby Village
- Sunny Tree Geniuses
- Creative Moon Childcare
You don’t need to over think the name of your childcare business. The importance is the quality of care you will provide to your families.
You can brand any daycare name!
I suggest you grab a piece of paper and pen and write down adjectives and verbs that represent your overall feeling about your childcare program and add a noun (like tree, bee, kids, alphabet).
To complete your daycare name, you can also add playschool, play care, daycare, childcare, academy, home care, kid care, etc.
To start you out, I included a small list of words you can mix and match:
5. Brainstorm with Family and Friends
If you’re really out of ideas or believe you can’t come up with a daycare name on your own, get family and friends to help.
Sometimes we might not feel creative or inspired. So, involving the people in our life can be fun and rewarding. They might come up with name ideas that you would never have thought.
And who knows, one of them might have the name of your daycare on the tip of their tongue.
