How do I teach my child the letter D?
It’s easy to start teaching the letter D or any of the other letters of the alphabet to a child. You can do art activities, play games, or sing songs that help children with letter recognition, sounds, and writing.
I like to sprinkle into my lessons a bit of process art and crafts of things that start with the current letter of the week.

Letter D Arts and Crafts Ideas:
Let’s start with introducing the Letter D with easy-to-make craft activities!
Letter “Dd” is for Donut
Directions:
To make the donut, use two different-sized storage container lids as templates. Draw a large circle on brown construction paper. Next, use the smaller lid to draw another circle in the middle of the the larger circle.
Cut out the circles to make the donut shape.
Ask the child to add the glaze or frosting to the donut by using white paint (or their choice of color).
Let dry.
I used pieces of construction paper leftover from other crafts to make small rectangles.
Have the child glue the different colored rectangle “sprinkles” on to their donut.
Letter “Dd” is for Dandelion
Directions:
On a piece of black construction paper, draw the stem of the dandelion with a white color pencil. You can make it as simple or intricate as you want.
You can also use other colors of construction paper but instead of a white color pencil use black.
Next, have your students dip one finger or Q-tip into white paint and ask them to fill in the dandelion puff.
Let dry.
Letter “Dd” is for Duck
Materials:
- Construction paper
- Paper plate
- Feathers
- Finger paint
- Craft stick
Directions:
Use a paintbrush to paint the bottom side of the paper plate, I used yellow finger paint, but you can use brown too. Let the paint dry.
Draw a small circle on a piece of construction paper to use as the ducks head. Draw the shape of a beak or a small triangle for simplicity.
Cut out the circle and the beak or if the child has the skills necessary, ask them to do it.
When the paper plate is dry, fold it in half, glue the craft stick to the plate, and staple it in the bottom.
Glue the head to one side of the paper plate, the feathers and beak. You can have the child draw the eyes with markers or use eye stickers like these.
Letter “Dd” is for Dinosaur
Download and print letter d printable (HERE) on white printer paper and color or paint green. If you use paint, wait for it to dry.
When it’s dry, cut out the shape of the letter d (optional), an oval for the head, a few triangles as spikes, and a tail.
Glue the pieces onto a sheet of construction paper to form the dinosaur.
Stick on googly eyes and draw a mouth.
That’s it!
