These easy prewriting activities for preschoolers and toddlers only require stickers, markers and a few sheets of paper.
If you want to minimize the amount of loose paper in your home, I recommend providing a composition notebook to each of your kids. Using a notebook will help you keep all their work together and you will save money on paper.
Below, I will share some ideas you can start doing with your toddler to help them with prewriting, matching, and sorting skills using stickers.
Okay, lets start!
Supplies:
1. Vertical Lines with Stickers
Prepare this prewriting activity by sticking stickers to the top of a sheet of paper.
Ask the child to choose their favorite color from a selection of markers. Then, have them draw vertical lines starting from the bottom of the sticker and going down to the bottom of the page.
Depending on the child’s age, you might have to place your hand over theirs and guide it as they practice writing vertical lines.
Children are fast learners, and they will be doing this activity on their own in no time.
2. Horizontal Lines with Stickers
In this activity, you will need to stick the stickers going down the side of the page.
Ask the child to choose a marker and draw horizontal lines or “sleeping lines.”
Make sure the lines are drawn from left to right.
3. Matching Activities with Stickers
Make rows columns of stickers. The top row needs to match the bottom row.
Ask the child to draw a straight line from the top sticker down to the matching sticker.
4. Diagonal Lines with Stickers
Make a column of stickers on one side of the paper. Make another column with alternating matching stickers on the opposite side of the paper.
Instruct the child to make diagonal lines as they connect the matching stickers.
5. Sticker Sorting Game Activity
For this activity, I used smiley face stickers in two different colors.
Then I drew two circles in the same colors as the stickers.
Finally, I asked the child to peel and stick the sticker onto the corresponding circle.
That’s it!
Easy peasy, right?
✅ Quick Tip: It’s easy to make these prewriting activities match your theme-based curriculum or adapt them to the upcoming festivity. Just use Halloween stickers, Christmas stickers, farm animal stickers. etc.
